What We Do

The General Henry William Harrington Chapter, NSDAR, actively promotes patriotism and American history in our community. We also support education in schools and recognize outstanding students. Listed below are ongoing chapter activities in our three main areas of projects.

Promoting Patriotism

  • Support the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Fayetteville through donations
  • Support local veterans in local assisted living homes with Adopt-A-Vet program at Christmas
  • Observe Memorial Day and Veterans Day events in our community
  • Welcome new citizens at the local Naturalization Ceremony
  • Support the NSDAR Project Patriot
  • Active participation in Wreaths Across America

Chapter members and their children participate in Wreaths Across America at the Eastside Cemetery where there are approximately 600 veterans who have been laid to rest.

Our chapter joined forces with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) in Rockingham to serve approximately 50 veterans and their families lunch after the Memorial Day Ceremony 2024.

Our chapter takes great pride in actively participating in local parades, proudly showcasing our commitment to patriotic spirit.

Our chapter collaborated with three other DAR chapters
to host a reception for 46 new American citizens
after the Naturalization Ceremony in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Historic Preservation

  • Attend commemorative events to mark graves of local American Revolutionary War Patriots
  • Support the National Society for the Preservation of NSDAR buildings
  • Participate in local historic programs and events

Chapter members celebrating the 243rd Anniversary of the House in the Horseshoe.

Our chapter celebrates the life of a member with a grave marking dedication ceremony.

Our members at a “pop-up” event with a tabletop Patriot tree to honor the chapter Patriots.

Education

  • Present Constitution Week displays in local libraries
  • Honor community members and organizations with the NSDAR Community Service Award
  • Sponsor Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) Awards to cadets at Richmond Senior High School
  • Sponsor DAR Good Citizens Essay contest for high school seniors
  • Support Crossnore Communities for Children
  • Support a local classroom with back-to-school supplies

COVID could not stop the generosity of General Henry William Harrington Chapter, NSDAR,  as they collected school supplies for local schools.

Chapter members created an eye-catching display at the Leath Memorial Library in Rockingham for Constitution Week.
